The short version
What is Carménère?
Carménère originated in Bordeaux but became closely identified with Chile after vines long mistaken for Merlot were correctly recognized. Warm days help ripen its fruit, while careful vineyard work limits harsh green flavors.
Black plum, blackberry, cocoa, green pepper, paprika, and herbs are common. It is usually medium-to-full bodied with smoother tannins than Cabernet Sauvignon.
