The short version
What is Malbec?
Though French in origin, Malbec found its modern identity in Argentina's sunny, high-altitude vineyards. Mountain-grown fruit can combine ripe flavor with the lift of cool nights.
Black plum and blackberry lead, often joined by violet, cocoa, leather, or sweet tobacco. It is usually full-bodied, yet its tannins can feel rounder and less stern than Cabernet's.
