The short version
What is Mourvèdre?
Known as Monastrell in Spain and Mataro in parts of Australia, Mourvèdre loves warm climates and ripens late. It is central to Bandol and often adds structure to southern Rhône-style blends.
Blackberry, black plum, violet, dried herbs, pepper, and earthy or meaty notes are typical. Full body and firm tannin make it a natural partner for slow-cooked dishes.
