The short version
What is Pinotage?
Pinotage was created in South Africa by crossing Pinot Noir with Cinsault, once locally called Hermitage. Vineyard and cellar choices produce a broad spectrum, from fresh modern reds to concentrated old-vine bottlings.
Blackberry, plum, raspberry, smoke, cocoa, and savory spice are common. Careful versions balance ripe fruit with freshness and avoid harsh or solvent-like aromas.
